A band like Catapults happens in spite of their hometown, not because of it. In 2017 their four members Lars, Joost, Malte and Maurice came together to make the kind of music they sorely missed in their local clubs. What started out as a classic pop-punk project has since grown into an Emo/Alternative Rock band that enjoys an ever-increasing cult status in Germany.
Catapults quickly turned heads in their first years. Having released two self-produced EPs they toured through much of Germany’s smaller club scene and festivals until the end of 2019, notables being Rock am Beckenrand, Lautfeuer Festival in Lingen and Stemweder Open Air, sharing stages with bands like Adam Angst, Fjørt, Marathonmann, Good Riddance and Less Than Jake. Two Years later, in 2021, Catapults released their first full-length Album under German indie music label Uncle M. “I’ll Be Honest” established the blueprint for the kind of music Catapults would become known for in the following years: brutally emotional lyricism and contantly growing musical variety, packed up in performances and production that sounds distinctly international.
This approach led to the 2025 release of “I Hope You Heal”, an independent release without the support of Uncle M. Instead Catapults partnered with Hamburg-based distributor Blood Blast Records. “I Hope You Heal” is an album that offers a deep look into the lived realities of its members and their perspectives on the people surrounding them. But most of all it presents the full spectrum of Catapults’ songwriting, even incorporating acoustic ballads and heavy breakdowns throughout.
“I Hope You Heal” cemented Catapults as a household name in the German independent-scene, which also reflects in their live shows. Both headline tours in Germany in 2024 and 2025 pulled thousands of fans into clubs throughout the country, not least thanks to the bands signature flavor of live energy, incorporating levity and approachability into songs that would usually be expected from much more self-serious people. This style of live-show has proven incredibly successful with fans and even international bands of their genre. In 2026 Catapults supported US-emo icons Hot Mulligan on all four Germany dates of their EU-tour, to great reactions from both the band and their established fanbase, while their worldwide audience on streaming platforms keeps growing steadily. Now, Catapults are already working on new material and have signed with A.S.S. Concerts & Promotion to present themselves to even wider audiences in 2026/2027.
